Srinagar Update: Gunfight on as a CRPF personnel succumbs to injuries, families evacuated

Aasif Suhaf, New Delhi, Feb 12: According to the latest news pouring in one CRPF personnel who was seriously injured in gunfight during ongoing encounter at CRPF camp in Srinagar's Karan Nagar succumbs to injuries. Around 20 family members of CRPF personnel (comprising women and children) have been rescued from nearby buildings where militants are hold up, official sources confirmed to News24.

IG CRPF Ravideep Sahai elaborated on encounter at CRPF camp in Srinagar's Karan Nagar, "Two militants tried to barge into CRPF headquarters in the morning. They couldn't enter the headquarters but sneaked in a building close to the HQ. 5 families have been evacuated. Operation is on. "

Encounter started between militants and forces in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar, attack was earlier repulsed by CRPF in morning at 4.30am, sources confirmed to News24.

During search operation contact has been established with militants in nearby building. All this while firing is going on. Two militants are hold up in an under construction building on the backside of CRPF Camp. Initial reports suggest that two militants are believed to be hold up. 1 CRPF Jawan has been injured according to the official sources.  Two terrorists, carrying bags and armed with AK47s, were seen approaching towards a CRPF camp in Srinagar in the early hours of Monday. 

The sentries immediately opened fire at around 4.30 am, after which the terrorist fled from the spot. A search operation in and around the camp is underway.
