Southampton (UK), June 6: Ahead of India's World Cup campaign opener against South Africa, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had posted a photo of Virat Kohli seated on a throne in royal attire.
In the background, a board displays India as two-time World Cup champions and another board shows Virat Kohli as the top-ranked ODI batsman.
The tweet created a sensation among twitterati with Virat Kohli fans bombarding the post with compliments.
However, former England captain Michael Vaughan created a controversy when he blamed the ICC for being partial towards Kohli.
Vaughan retweeted the ICC post with the caption: “Nothing like impartiality!!!”
That prompted Indian fans to unleash a barrage of abuse at Vaughan.
The former England batsman finally lost his cool and responded to one Indian fan with “Oh shut up you idiot.”
The ICC also responded to Vaughan’s post by sharing two screenshots showing Virat Kohli’s ICC ODI rankings and his hat-trick at the ICC awards.
