New Delhi: Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman says that Virat Kohli's team India will be the favorite of victory in the ICC World Test Championship final match against New Zealand. He also said that Kohli and Co. have been playing good cricket consistently for a long time.
While Speaking to Sportstar, Laxman said, “Both the teams are good but I think India will be the favorite because of the way Team India has been playing not only in the last few years but for a long time.”
“He has accepted the challenges and faced all the hurdles – as in the recent series against Australia. And this Indian line-up has a lot of talent and strong bench strength. But since this is the only match, I think the team which bats well in the first innings will keep the match.
“I believe both the teams are equal. I believe because this is a one-off match - not a series - whichever team bats well in the first innings will have the edge and control the entire match."
The former cricketer said, "But Team India has never backed down, no matter what challenges they face. The series win in Australia is an example of his character and a positive mindset. I have never seen a bigger challenge than what India faced in Australia, where he lost the first Test after being all out for 36 and then was not a permanent captain for the rest of the match. One after the other, all the senior players were getting injured, and then you had your B-team sort of saved in their home against Australia. Despite all these challenges, he won the series in such a great way.
The first ICC Test Championship final match between India and New Zealand is to be played in Southampton from 18 to 22 June.
