New Delhi: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two of the greatest batsmen of current India National Cricket Team, have always been subjected to numerous comparisons. While both have held mighty records as batsmen, Rohit has an edge over Virat as limited over series' captain.
The split captaincy debate has further intensified after Rohit Sharma led his team Mumbai Indians to their fifth title win in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League. Fans, cricket experts and commentators have also joined in the debate to share their opinion on the topic ahead of the much-anticipated India-Australia clash which is scheduled to commence from November 27.
Recently, former India batsman Gautam Gambhir also weighed in on the debate. In the Star Sport show Cricket Connected, Gambhir said that current captain Virat Kohli is doing his job, but his deputy Rohit Sharma will be better at it once handed over.
"Virat Kohli is not a bad captain, but Rohit Sharma is a better captain. There is a vast difference between the quality of his captaincy," he said, while adding the referring to Kohli and Rohit's IPL records as captains.
Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra came out in Virat's support saying India should be prioritized over performance for IPL franchises, while he also mentioned that Kohli has done well as a T20 captain in international cricket.
"There is no time for a change and to build a new team. There has to be games for a new philosophy to be introduced. With 5-6 T20s before T20 World Cup next year then I am against the captaincy," he said.
Meanwhile, fans of both the cricketers have indulged in fiery debate on the topic on Twitter, While some fans urged BCCI to let Rohit take over the captaincy in limited-over series, others insisted that it is only fair that Virat continues the captaincy.
