New Delhi (Megha Mittal): In an exclusive interview with News24, Olympic Bronze Medal winner Bajrang Punia said that he would do all the things that can help the younger players to be the best in their games. Haryana Wrestle, Punia wants all the players to get training so that their talent is not wasted. He said, "I will help the players in any way required and that I can do on my part."
Bajrang Punia recently had a meeting with the Chief Minister of Delhi to foster the talks about Sports University in the capital for the country's young talents.
When asked about the Sports University helping the players who lack resources, he replied, "I don't know the policies of the government for it yet but in my opinion, I feel the government should help the players in whatever way required and no talent should be wasted because of lack of resources or money".
"I feel like all the players can be trained very well if the government supports them and encourage them to provide all the resources and monetary benefits," he added.
When asked about the types of games for which training will be provided in the Sports University, the Olympic medalist said that the government would try to include all the games that Indian players participate in Olympics.
The Chief Minister Office tweeted to share the information about the meeting and wrote that the government, along with the star wrestler, is trying to set up Delhi Sports University so that more and more players can be trained for the Olympics and India can have more Olympic medals.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in the meeting, "The whole country is proud of your achievements. Your performance in the Tokyo Olympics has made India proud, and it will inspire the young generation to achieve great success and win as many medals as possible".
He also said that Delhi Government is fully prepared to encourage sports in young and will try its best to help the players in all manners possible. This is the reason why the government has laid the stone for Sports University in Mundka.
The Delhi CM further added that we want to prepare many players who can get the best training and take part in many more Olympics to bring medals home. "We are trying to commence the university as soon as possible, and we want Bajrang Punia's participation in this endeavor", he said during the meeting.
Chief Minister assured the wrestler that the medal winners would start getting the benefits of the ongoing schemes very soon.
After meeting CM Kejriwal, the Haryana wrestler had a rendezvous with Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia to discuss the future endeavors of the government for sports.
This was Bajrang Punia's second meeting with the Delhi CM, the first being in September about the same matter.
