Real Madrid are now only two points behind Atletico. Earlier on Wednesday, Atletico beat Real Sociedad 2–1.
The victory at the Nuevo Los Cármenes means Real Madrid are now unbeaten in their last 16 LaLiga games (11 wins). The Whites haven't lost a game in the domestic competition in over three months.
Moreover, Atletico have 80 points from 36 matches, while Real Madrid have 78 points from the same number of matches. Now that there are only two rounds of matches left, Barcelona also remain in the race for the league title. They have 76 points from 36 matches. Barca had played a 3–3 draw against Levante on Tuesday. Fourth-ranked team Sevilla (74 from 36 matches) are also not far behind. In other matches, Villarreal retained hopes of a place in the Europa League by defeating Real Valladolid 2–0. Sixth-ranked Real Betis Energia Plus played a 1–1 draw from Eiber.
Benzema gets his 29th goal of the season. The French forward notched his 29th goal of the campaign in Granada to approach his most prolific season with Real Madrid: he hit 32 in 2011/12 and 30 in 2018/19.
