Kolakata Knight Riders almost lost the game after an easy 123/2 after 16.3 overs when it lost 5 back-to-back wickets with the gain of just 7 runs. KKR's Tripathi rescued the team to finals with the winning shot of six in Sharjah.
Dubai, UAE: Kolakata Knight Riders, who initially made it look like a cakewalk with 123/2 after 16.3 overs almost lost the grip afterwards. Chasing the target of 136 for victory, KKR openers made roaring 96 runs before losing any wicket.
Half way through the match, the crowd was conviced of seeing KKR locking horns with CSK in finals but as Nitish Rana departed at 15.6 overs, the winning side of the table seemed to turn around. KKR Wickets feel at such a speed and the dot balls increased at such a pace that KKR had lost 5 more wickets with the gain of only 7 run by the end of 19.4 overs.
6 runs were required off 2 balls when Rahul Tripathi came to rescue and dragged his team to the finals with a winning shot of six. And then there were cheers and tears both, in the same ground.
Had KKR lost after such a comendable innings of 15 overs, it would have been unpardonable for the team and a lose of great regret. Eoin Morgan in his statement has said that a proper post-mortem of the last overs will be done later, which is indeed much needed.
The Struggling Innings of Delhi Capitals
Delhi Captitals pulled all strings possible to snatch the victory from the jaws of their opponent, only to miss the end that could't go their way. Though, KKR had its clasp tight on DC from the start yet the powerplay was an advantage to DC, with Prithvi Shaw being their major attacking weapon. But once Shaw was out early then DC was pressured as KKR made its grip even tightier. DC could only make 38/1 in the powerplay.
Between seven and 15 overs, DC scored 52 runs for the loss of two more wickets. The final pvers also didn't prove to be very promising with DC posting 135/5 on the board.
The finals will be played between KKR and CSK, it will be a match to watch who will grab the hold of IPL 2021 title.
