New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday in an announcement said that the mini-auction for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League will be held on February 18 in Chennai.
The official handle of IPL also confirmed the development on their Twitter handle as they wrote, "IPL 2021 Player Auction on 18th February. Venue: Chennai."
Last week, all the eight teams had submitted the list of retained as well as released players to the cricketing board. As many as 139 players have been retained by the eight IPL franchises whereas 57 players have been released from their existing squads. Sunrisers Hyderabad have retained the most number of players -- 22 -- while Royal Challengers Bangalore have only 12 players in the squad having traded Daniel Sams and Harshal Patel from Delhi Capitals.
Kings XI Punjab will enter the auction with the possible purse of INR 53.20 crores, followed by RCB, who have INR 35.90 crore in hand. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad will have the least amount of balance in their purse - INR 10.75 crore.
While Rajasthan Royals have INR 34.85 crore in their purse, Chennai Super Kings is with INR 22.90 crore in hand. Season 13 Finalist Delhi Capitals have Rs 12.90 crore while winner Rs 15.35 crore in their purse are available in winner Mumbai Indians' purse.
Meanwhile, the schedule of the IPL 14 is yet to be announced. As IPL 13 was postponed last year in the wake of pandemic, it is expected that the cash rich tournament may see a delay this year too.
