Glasgow: Patrick Schick scored two goals in ten minutes as the Czech Republic started the European Championship (Euro Cup) with a resounding victory over Scotland 2–0. Patrick scored his second goal from a distance of 49.7 yards, the most from a distance in 41 years. It is being called the most amazing goal of the tournament.
It was the first goal scored from nearly half the field since 1980. Scotland lost control of the ball in their half and the ball went to Czech striker Patrick. He noticed that David Marshall, the opponent's goalkeeper, was out of place and was too far out of line. Taking advantage of the opportunity, he kicked with the left foot from there, which waving the ball went into the goal post.
"Two great goals – the second one superb. He had numerous efforts, led the line, brought people into the game, and ran the channels when necessary. Overall a great performance." Packie Bonner, UEFA Technical Observer
According to UEFA, this is the longest-range goal since 2004. Earlier in 2004, Germany's Torsten Frings scored from a distance of 38.6.
After 15 years later, a Czech player has scored two goals in a match in a major tournament. Prior to Patrick, Thomas Roskey had achieved this feat at the 2006 World Cup in 2006.
Patrik Schick is the first player to score two goals in a EURO game for the Czech Republic since Milan Baroš in a 3-0 quarter-final win over Denmark in 2004.
A total of 12 fouls occurred in the match which is the lowest in the last 41 years (since 1980). Both the teams committed six fouls each.
