New Delhi, Oct 7, News24 Bureau: Team India captain Virat Kohli wants Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to change the rule of the players and support staff wives staying a few weeks on a foreign tour. According to some reports, Kohli wants that the Indian Cricket Board should allow wives to be present during the whole foreign tour.
A source was quoted as saying by the Indian Express, “The request was made a few weeks back but as it is a BCCI policy decision, the manager will have to submit a formal request first. Anushka has been travelling with Kohli overseas, however, Kohli now wants the old rule to be abolished and a new policy should come up where wives should be allowed to travel with the Indian team.”
However, the report has claimed that the COA is unlikely to take any decision in this matter soon and will wait till the new elected body will be formed to run the BCCI.
According to the existing rules, the wives of the players and support staff or the members of the house are allowed to stay with the team for two weeks. The opinions of the people are different on whether wives or children should stay with the team at long tours or not.
Many cricket-playing countries have banned families. This matter also came out during the Football World Cup when some countries decided to stop the wives and girlfriends of the players or not to stay together.
