New Delhi: Unprecedented and unruly scene was seen in Lok Sabha on Thursday, when Shiv Sena MP Anant Geete charged at Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju,. the minister was just about saved by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Textiles Minister Smriti Irani among others. Later in the day, Geete apologised to Raju.
It all started when Raju refused to lift the flying ban on Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad. Furious at this, Shiv Sena PM Anant Geete charged at the Aviation Minister. Earlier, Gaikwad apologised to the House for his behaviour saying, “I apologise for my behaviour but not to the Air India official who abused and manhandled me,”. “What is my crime that I am being subjected to a media trial by fire?," Gaikwad added. But, Raju firmly refused to accept Shiv Sena demand to lif ban saying, “The law should take its course. Aircraft are machines where people fly and safety is important. Safety will not be compromised.”
Soon after Raju had finished his statement, Geete charged at him. With the situation turning ugly, BJP’s SS Ahluwalia escorted Geete out, while ministers Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani ran and shielded Raju.
This didn't stop Geete from threatening.“No flight will take off from Mumbai,” Geete warned while he was being taken out. Sena has argued that ban on Gaikwad is a breach of his privilege.
The controversy had started when Gaikwad on his Air India flight from Pune to Delhi last month assaulted a 60-year-old Air India manager. The manager has asked him to leave the plane when he asked for an explanation of not being offered a business class seat on a flight that was all-economy.
