"Shame on you Mr Bhagwat, for disrespecting our martyrs and our Army, " tweets Rahul

New Delhi, Feb 12: Smelling trouble, RSS has taken a U-Turn and said that Mohan Bhagwat's statement is being twisted. He did not mean a comparison between the RSS and Indian Army.

"There is desperation and panic among the terrorists. They are trying to indulge in at least some kind of terror activities so that their morale can be restored. We are very sorry that some soldiers had to sacrifice their lives," said BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav in a bid to control the damage.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had reportedly said that while the Army would take "six months" to raise a force to fight a war, the RSS could do the same in a matter of "three days".

Congress President Rahul Gandhi reacted to this episode by tweeting thus, "The RSS Chief's speech is an insult to every Indian, because it disrespects those who have died for our nation. It is an insult to our flag because it insults every soldier who ever saluted it. Shame on you Mr Bhagwat, for disrespecting our martyrs and our Army."

RSS said that Bhagwat was referring to the readiness general population and not RSS in particular.

"Sangh will prepare military personnel within three days which the army would do in 6-7 months. This is our capability. Swayamsewak will be ready to take on the front if the country faces such a situation and Constitution permits to do so)," Bhagwat had said.

Sangh is neither a military nor a para military organisation, rather it is like a "parivarik sangathan" (family organisation) where discipline is practised like the army, he said adding that workers are always happily ready to make supreme sacrifice for their country.
