Sack Kohli, make Rohit Sharma Captain, Twitter on fire after Hitman's 100

New Delhi, Jan 12: Replace Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma as captain of ODI team. Twitterati now want a change at the top of Team India after Rohit celebrated his fatherhood with a smashing 100 against Australia in the first ODI at Sydney. It was a blistering knock which came at a time when wickets were falling at the other end. With his knock, now Rohit has equalled Saurav Ganguly's record of ODI centuries.    

This was Rohit's first international outing after he becoming father. The Hitman from Mumbai had returned Rohit to India after scoring a brilliant 50 had  in the Boxing Day Test to be with his wife Ritika for the birth of their daughter Samaira.

In his 194th innings, Rohit started slowly, but when he got MS DHoni as partnered, his innings gathered momentum and he started blossoming. His 133 off 129 balls was sprinkled with six sixes and 10 fours. Innings came at time when Rohit was under pressure after loss of Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu in the firts four over overs while chasing 289 runs for victory.

This is Rohit's fourth century in Australia and seventh against the Aussies. His top score against Australia is 209.

By scorind his 22nd ODI hundred, Rohit is now joint third in the list for most ODI hundreds by Indians.  Ganguly has 22 hundreds from 311 matches. List is topped by Sachin Tendulkar (49), with Virat Kohli at second with 38.

In terms of ODI hundreds in India-Australia matches, Rohit is second in the list. Sachin Tendulkar heads the list with 9 centuries, Rohit is second with seven, Ricky Ponting is third with six.

Rohit is now the third highest run-scorer in India-Australia ODIs. Here also Sachin is at the top with 3077 runs, followed by Ricky Ponting with 2164 runs, Rohit third with  runs. He is followed by Adam Gilchrist (1622) and Matthew Hayden (1450).

For new dad Rohit, this is a bumper start in 2019. In 2018, Rohit was the second highest run getter in ODIs (1030 runs with 5 hundreds in 19 ODIs) after Virat.

Rohit had led India to victories in the Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup in 2018, when Virat Kohli was rested.

Even as Dhawan, Kohli and Rayudu failed, Rohit looked determined at the othe end and got off the mark with a huge six. He unleashed a few more of his patent strokes to intimidate Australia who were on fire after reducing India to 4 for 3. But Rohit Sharma loves feasting on the Australian bowling attack.

Before the Sydney ODI, Rohit had scored 6 hundreds including a double hundred against the Aussies from 28 ODIs. During the course of his innings, Rohit also became the third highest run-scorer in India-Australia ODIs.

Sachin Tendulkar heads the list with 3077 runs while Ricky Ponting is second with 2164 runs. Rohit Sharma is now followed by Adam Gilchrist (1622) and Matthew Hayden (1450).

This is a dream start to the New Year for Rohit Sharma, who became a father only a few days back. In 2018, he was the second highest run-scorer in one-day internationals behind Virat Kohli. Last year, Rohit had scored 1030 runs and 5 hundreds from 19 ODIs.

In 2018, Rohit Sharma had also captained India in the Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup when Virat Kohli was rested. India won both tournaments.
