RSS leader shocks, says why MeToo victims were silent for 10-15 years

New Delhi, Oct 12: Amidst the ongoing MeToo controversy, comes a shocker from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar. The RSS leader asked why the women were silent for 10-15 years and have now started telling their woes. He added that women who are facing sexual harassment now should file complaint immediately and should not wait for years to speak up.Commenting on Shiv Sena demand that MJ Akbar should resign, Kumar said, “Women who have faced harassment should not have been silent for so long. They should have made complaints regarding that then only. Not filing a complaint then rather doing it now is not graceful. The men who are facing complaints in the face of MeToo should face them boldly. I would like to appeal to the nation that if anyone faces immorality they should not wait for 10 or 15 years and go to court.”Many women journalists have come in public and given vivid account of Akbar's misconduct and immorality.Meanwhile, the Women and Child Development Ministry (WCD) on Friday said that it will set up a legal committee in the wake of the #MeToo campaign, where multiple sexual harassment cases from the media and entertainment industry have come to light."The Ministry will be setting up a committee of senior judicial and legal persons as members to examine all issues emanating from the #MeToo India movement," it said in a statement. The committee will look into the legal and institutional framework which is in place for handling complaints of sexual harassment at work and will advise the Ministry on how to strengthen this framework."I believe in each of them. I believe in the pain and trauma behind every single complaint. Cases of sexual harassment at work must be dealt with a policy of zero tolerance," said Union WCD Minister Maneka Gandhi.According to a WCD official, the committee will go into the legal and institutional framework and not based on individual complaints."Public hearing doesn't mean hearing of individual complaints. It means any stakeholders can come and depose before the committee if they want to," the official added. The formal order regarding the constitution of the committee will be disclosed in a few days.News24 Bureau/ IANS
