Hyderabad: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday sat for a hunger strike along with the students of Hyderabad Central University (HCU) to demand justice for Dalit student Rohith Vemula , who had committed suicide at the University campus.
Rahul reached the University campus late on Friday night and joined a midnight candlelight march along with Vemula's mother Radhika and brother Raja Chaitanya.
This is Gandhi's second visit to the campus since Vemula's death.
Gandhi also spoke with the agitating students here.
Meanwhile, in a dramatic turn of events, Dr Vipin Srivastava who took charge as the interim Vice-Chancellor of Hyderabad Central University (HCU) went on leave and a new interim VC took charge in his place on Friday.
Srivastava was appointed as the interim VC on January 24 after V-C Appa Rao Podile went on leave amid protest from the student community over the death of Rohith Vemula.
