Risking life for a job: 200 injured in Mumbai

Mumbai: Rising unemployment is forcing the youth to risk their lives for a job. This was highlighted in Mumbai during the recruitment process for 774 firemen conducted by the BMC.

As part of the physical test, the candidates were asked to jump from a height of 19 feet. With no other choice, the youth decided to go for it. It was a jump that most candidates will never forget. Around 200 candidates got injured, some of them with fractures.

The injured are being treated at Baba Saheb Hospital, where some of them underwent operations. Taking cognizance of the incident, the State Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to BMC directing the local body to probe the incident and submit a report.
