Rahul accepts defeat in Amethi, congratulates Modi while taking responsibility for Cong loss

New Delhi, May 23: Congress President Rahul Gandhi has accepted defeat and congratulated PM Narendra Modi on his historic win. Rahul also accepted defeat in Amethi and hoped that Smriti Irani will take care of Amethi with love. The Congress President said that he is taking the responsibility for the humiliating loss of Congress. He urged the workers not to lose heart.

Political observers feel that the acceptance came a bit too soon as many rounds of counting are pending. But maybe, the Congress President, who has turned a new leaf in politics, sensed what was coming and wanted to end all speculation.

It was a brief interaction with the media and he did take some questions as well. But he appeared a man in haste and tried to answer the queries.

An apparently calm looking Rahul said that he does not want to discolour the people's mandate by talking about ifs and buts. the verdict is clear and we should accept that gracefully, he said.

Sensing the restlessness of media which was prodding him to come out and give some controversial bytes, Rahul did not fall in the trap.
