New Delhi: In a rare decision, President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday approved the sacking of Vishwa Bharti Vice Chancellor Sushanta Duttagupta, after the HDR Ministry resubmitted its proposal to terminate his services.
The HRD Ministry had recommend Duttagupta’s termination after a government probe panel found him guilty of misconduct, dereliction of duty and financial bungling.
HRD Ministry’s recommendations were accepted following a long tussle with the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
According to a report in The Indian Express, President’s office wanted the ministry to withdraw its request and accept his resignation, which he had submitted on September 30 last year.
However, the ministry did not concede while arguing that accepting Duttagupta’s resignation would be an acknowledgement on part of the government that the VC had done nothing wrong.
The Ministry resubmitted its proposal to the President’s Office last week along with a legal opinion from Attorney general Mukul Rohtagi and the Law Ministry.
