President condoles loss of lives in Uttarakhand cloudburst

New Delhi:  President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday condoled the loss of lives due to cloudburst and heavy rain in Uttarakhand. In a missive written by the state Governor K.K. Paul, the President said that he was "saddened" by the loss of lives due to cloudburst and heavy rains, an official statement said here. The President stated that his thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the natural calamity.  Mukherjee hoped that the state government and other agencies are taking "necessary steps to provide all possible help" to the bereaved families who have lost their near and dear ones as well as medical assistance to the injured, the statement said. At least 14 bodies have been recovered so far from the debris in villages hit by the cloudburst and landslide. As many as 39 people were feared dead on Friday in the calamity that devastated six villages of Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts. More than 60 houses were flattened due to incessant rain in the region on Friday.
