New Delhi, May 15: Visas of more than 90 Pakistani brides were withheld by China over trafficking fears. Pakistani girls are in big demand in China and are smuggled into the country after fake marriages. As a precautionary measure amid a raging controversy over Pakistani girls being trafficked to China after fake marriages, the Chinese embassy here has withheld visas of 90 Pakistani brides. This was informed by China's Deputy Chief of Mission in Pakistan Lijian Zhao who said on Tuesday that 140 applications have been received this year from Chinese nationals, seeking visas for their Pakistani brides. As a precaution, only 50 visas were granted and the remaining requests were withheld. He further informed that the embassy had received 142 such applications in 2018, according to The Express Tribune report. The Pakistan Government has recently ordered the Federal Investigating Agency to take action against the gangs involved in smuggling of Pakistani girls to China on the pretext of contracting marriage. The whole syndicate is at work where poor Christians girls, are lured, with money and promises of 'good life', by the illegal matchmaking centres to marry Chinese men . These Chinese men are those who are visiting or working in Pakistan. Pakistani girls have a certain charm and are considered beautiful. Not just this, they also produce fake documents of Chinese men showing them either as Christians or Muslims. After some time the same girls become victims of human trafficking and are forced into prostitution.According to the Chinese diplomat, "This sudden spike in the number of transnational marriages alerted the officials and we approached our Pakistani counterparts who have launched an investigation into the matter.'However, Zhao said that the media reports twisted the facts as there was no evidence to prove that the women were forced into prostitution and subjected to heinous crime of organ harvesting. But the facts and some real-life cases speak an altogether different story.
