New Delhi, News24 Bureau, June 18: If sources are to be believed then BJP MP Om Birla is likely to be NDA's nominee for Lok Sabha speaker's post.Birla won from Kota-Bundi parliamentary seat in Rajasthan and once nominated, Birla will easily become the speaker as the National Democratic Alliance has a clear majority in the House.But if at all it is necessary, the election for the post may be held on Wednesday.
Birla is an Indian politician from Bharatiya Janata Party and Member of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha from the Kota-Bundi constituency of Rajasthan state. He was a three-time Member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from Kota South. He is currently in the race for Lok Sabha 17th Lok Sabha speaker post.
When BJP MP Om Birla was asked if he is NDA candidate for post the of Lok Sabha Speaker, he said, "I have no information, I had just gone to meet the Working President as a 'karyakarta'."
He was responding when he was leaving from the residence of BJP National Working President, JP Nadda.The Speaker of the Lok Sabha will be elected tomorrow and as the rule goes, Speaker has to be from the Lok Sabha. BJP’s Sumitra Mahajan was the Speaker in the 16th Lok Sabha. Mahajan had decided not to contest Lok Sabha polls like many other senior BJP leaders.
Amita Birla, wife of BJP MP Om Birla, when asked about this development said, "It is a very proud and a happy moment for us. We are very thankful to the cabinet for choosing him."
The new Lok Sabha Speaker will be elected tomorrow. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has not officially named their candidate. However, news agency ANI has reported, quoting sources that Om Birla will be NDA's candidate.
Who is Om Birla?Birla is an MP from Rajasthan's Kota-Bundi Lok Sabha constituency.
The promising leader has been active in student politics. In 1979 he was president of the student union. For 12 years since 1991, Birla was a key leader in Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha as president at the state level first, followed by holding the position of vice-president at the national level.
Birla is considered very close to the senior BJP leaders and is their natural choice.
