New Delhi: After upending the whole telecom industry of India, Reliance Jio still doesn't seem to slow down anytime soon. The company is expected to continue its low-cost tariffs but also diversify itself in others services like such as DTH and home broadband.Going by the experience with Jio’s telecom unit, the upcoming Jio services will likely be ultra-low cost and cause major disruption in their respective segments. Here is a look at 5 things you can expect from Reliance Jio this year:
1. Jio DTH service
As per the reports, Jio DTH will be launched in May and you can expect Jio to offer 90 days of free Jio DTH service as a welcome offer promotion.
Those who are now paying Rs. 250-300 now for accessing 300 channels including few HD ones will be happy to buy JIO DTH when Jio will offer more than 300+ TV channels and more than 50+ HD channels for around Rs.180-200.
Reports say that the set-top-boxes, contain HDMI port, USB port, ethernet port, and other cable ports. No other details are available.
Jio DTH connections are likely to offer combined TV and internet services through the same cable.
2. Reliance Jio broadband service
Reliance Jio is expected to launch a Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband service soon, which will deliver internet speed up to 1Gbps. The high-speed optical fiber service is expected to come bundled with Jio services. Officially no word on the Reliance Jio home broadband launch date and price yet.
3. Jio Money
Reliance Jio is expected to promote Jio Money in a big way this year. At present we can use Reliance’s payment service at selected retail outlets, and of course at various e-commerce sites, but soon you can expect Jio money used for each and everything from metro rides and at convince stores. As per media reports, Jio is also working on a solution where receipts related to all purchases made via Jio Money will be managed in the cloud for you.
4. 4G VoLTE feature phone
4G VoLTE-enabled feature phones will be another thing to come, it was in the news when the image of one leaked online. Phone in the image featured sports hardware buttons for MyJio, JioTV, JioCinema, and JioMusic apps. As per the report, VoLTE feature phone will have Spreadtrum chipsets, although chances of Qualcomm and MediaTek can't be denied as well. The feature phones rumored to priced around Rs. 999- 1,500.
5. Home automation and other smart products
With Reliance already having its brand of Reconnect accessories, you can still expect more products to be added this year. The group is also said to be working on home automation products that could work with the Jio network. The company is also said to be working on a new app called Jio MediaShare that will let users easily stream content on your mobile devices from your PC or laptop. Jio has also developed Chromecast-like devices that will let users enjoy the same experience on the big screen. By this user can start watching content on one screen and continue on another, seamlessly, is being touted as a big feature.
