New Delhi, July Aug 1: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh died in Singapore Hospital on Saturday.
Amar Singh was ill for the past few months. Amar Singh was being treated in Singapore. He underwent a kidney transplant some time ago.
Amar Singh attained prominence in Delhi when the UPA government lost majority after the CPIM withdrew its support on the proposed nuclear deal with the United States.
At that time Amar Singh promised to support the UPA government with the support of 39 members of the Samajwadi Party.
On 6 January 2010 he was expelled from the Samajwadi Party as well as the parliamentary board and its spokesperson. Amar Singh was expelled from the Samajwadi Party in February 2010 along with his close aide Jaya Prada.
On 21 December 2010, Amar Singh launched his official website.
Amar Singh formed his own political party, the Rashtriya Lok Manch, in 2011 and fielded candidates in 360 of the 403 seats in Uttar Pradesh in the 2012 assembly elections.
However his party did not win a single seat in these elections. He joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal party in March 2014, contested and lost the general elections of 2014 from Fatehpur Sikri, Uttar Pradesh.
