Jammu: Pakistan continues to indulge in attempts to destabilize the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
On Saturday, an Indian soldier attained martyrdom on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district due to yet another ceasefire violation by Pakistan troops.
Confirming the development, defence ministry spokesman Colonel Devender Anand said that the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked cross border firing in the Rajouri sector.
"Own troops responded strongly to the enemy fire. In the incident, Sepoy Robin Kumar was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries," Colonel Devender Anand said in a statement.
"Sepoy Robin Kumar was a brave, highly motivated, and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," the statement added.
The martyred soldier belonged to Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.
Pakistan has been violating ceasefire on the LoC at regular intervals. The Pakistan Army has conducted more than 2,700 ceasefire violations so far this year. These incidents have led to the deaths of 21 civilians while 94 have been injured.
