New Delhi, Sep 9: This is a very big day for Swati,wife of Col Santosh Mahadik, who lost his life fighting terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir in 2015 because she is commissioned as Army Officer. An obviously emotional Lt Swati Mahadik says," His(Col Mahadik) first love was his uniform and his unit, so I just had to wear this."
Swati did not have time to weep and wait. Just two months after the funeral she joined Apex Careers to get through Services Selection Board examination. Col Santosh Mahadik, the Commanding Officer of 41 Rashtriya Rifles, was critically injured during the operation in the Haji Naka forest area of Kupwara near the LoC in Kashmir in November and succumbed to his injuries at a hospital later. An officer from the elite 21 Para-Special Forces unit, Col Mahadik was awarded a Sena Medal for gallantry during Operation Rhino in the North-East in 2003
Mahadik's wife Swati joined the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai as part of the SSCW (Non-tech) course for 11 months' training before she joins the Army as a lieutenant.
