Lucknow: Taking advantage of the Shivpal Yadav- Akhilesh Yadav rift, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav may have made Tipu (pet name of UP CM Akhilesh Yadav), the new sultan of the Samajwadi Party.
The open war between Shivpal Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav, brought out the ambitions of the warring 'chacha-bhatija'. Plus, the standoff also helped Mulayam in knowing who in party and government was with whom, especially the senior leaders. This is what Mulayam wanted to know.
It was clear that Shivpal wanted to remain state party president to control ticket distribution initially and then pitch himself as CM, if the party manages to retain power in 2017. Shivpal's reaction after losing ministries indicated that he is unwilling to let go of 'lucrative' ministries.
Apart from remaining CM, Akhilesh made it clear that he wanted a bigger role in party organisation, specially in ticket distribution for coming assembly elections. On SaturdayAkhilesh again tried to prove that he is ready for an important party position.
He said, "I suddenly remembered that netaji (Mulayam) had made me incharge of party's youth wing at the national level. But now I have grown up".
With ambitions of the warring duo clear, foxy Mulayam played his cards to give son Akhilesh an edge over brother Shivpal.
After realising that most senior party leaders and ministers were with Akhilesh, Mulayam decide his next move. SP supremo asked Shivpal Yadav to continue as state party chief, and asked Akhilesh to return Shivpal's ministries.
In return, Shivpal was asked by Mulayam to make a statement that Akhilesh will be the CM candidate in 2017 elections. Shivpal did that. Thus, Mulayam in one stroke demolished the possible CM ambitions of Shivpal.
Then to rein in Shivpal further, Mulayam is likely to appoint as National Working President or Chairman of the parliamentary board of the party. By virtue of any of these posts, Akhilesh will have a major, if not the last, say in matter of ticket distribution.
As things stand now, Akhilesh has not only returned original ministries to Shivpal, but has given him two more portfolios. However, the CM has not given something that Shivpal wanted most- PWD portfolio. CM has not brought back Deepak Singhal, something that Shivpal wanted. On the other hand, as a minister chacha Shivpal will be reporting to bhatija CM.
In party, Shivpal and Akhilesh both will be reporting to Mulayam. In ticket distribution, Shivpal will not have the final say, he will have to take consent from Akhilesh.
Only a wily politician like Mulayam could have sold 'putra moh (love for son)' as a peace formula
