MoU on cooperation in economic projects signed by India and Sri Lanka

New Delhi: India and Sri Lanka on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in economic projects following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his visiting Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe here.

"Deepening economic collaboration. India-Sri Lanka signed MoU on Cooperation in Economic Projects," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay tweeted.

In a separate tweet, Modi said that he held "comprehensive talks" with Wickremesinghe "on ways to strengthen India-Sri Lanka ties for the benefit of our citizens".

Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on the visiting dignitary.

Wickremesinghe arrived here on Tuesday on a five-day visit to India.

Relief for Indian fishermen? PM Modi and Wickremsinghe to discuss

After meeting senior political leaders Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe later in the day met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The leaders are expected to discuss ways to further expand ties in a range of areas and find a solution to the vexed fishermen issue.
