Meet new Sachin Tendulkar of India

New Delhi, Feb 5: The 18-year-old, right-hand top-order batsman of India Under 19 team, Shubman Gill has no need of introduction and obviously after the triumph in 2018 U-19 World Cup. He was vice-captain for the 2018 World Cup and also the Player of the Tournament (372 runs).

Before that he made his first-class debut for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy in late 2017 with a half-century and an excellent 129 in the next match.

On his Under-16 state debut, he made an undefeated double-century in the Vijay Merchant Trophy for Punjab.

In 2014, he scored 351 in Punjab's Inter-District Under-16 tournament and contributed a record opening stand of 587 with Nirmal Singh. 

In the same year, he accompanied his idol Virat Kohli for receiving a BCCI award for the best junior cricketer, which he won for two successive years i.e. 2013-14 and 2014-15. 

When selected for the national Under-19 team, he gathered 351 runs in four innings and became the Man of the Series during the Youth ODI series against England.

In the reciprocal tour, his first in England, he top-scored with 278 runs in four innings. India swept both series. 

Shubman was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 1.8 crore, While he was in New Zealand for the World Cup on the day of the 2018 IPL auction.
