New Delhi, News24 Bureau, March 18: BSP supremo Mayawati insults Congress, says it is free to fight on all 80 seats, no need to leave 7 seats thereby creating confusion in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier in the day, Congress announced that it is leaving 7 seats for the BDP-SP-RLD alliance.
An apparently irritated Mayawati has snubbed Congress on the 7-seat offer and said that the party should not create any confusion.
The BSP supremo said Congress is free to fight on all 80 seats. Mayawati made it clear that the SP-BSP combine had no poll understanding with the Congress anywhere in the country. “Our supporters should not fall for doubts being created by the Congress,” said Mayawati. The Seven Lok Sabha seats include Mainpuri, Kannauj and Firozabad (these are all SP bastions)This is seen as a tacit understanding between the Congress and other opposition parties of not contesting any stronghold constituency, but instead, it seems to have fired back. The relation between BSP and Congress has soured over the years and though it got BSP support in few states to keep BJP in check, in Uttar Pradesh they are at daggers drawn.
