Maharashtra: 2 dead as CISF jawan opens fire on colleagues

Mumbai: Two people were killed as a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan, deployed at a power plant in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district, opened fired on his colleagues on Tuesday night.

The incident occured when constable Harish Kumar Gound, who is deployed at Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt Ltd (RGPPL), allegedly opened fire on two of his colleagues after he engaged in a verbal altercation with them.

Following the incident, the CISF officials called in his pregnant wife, who pleaded him to “calm down”. However, Gound opened fire at her and later shot himself too.

Gound and his wife have been admitted to a hospital in Chiplun and their condition is stable.

Meanwhile, CISF has ordered an inquiry into the matter and the police have registered a case under IPC sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and Arms Act 27(3).
