Love Marriage: While Sakshi lives with honour killing threat, Mumbai's Meenakshi killed by father

Meenakshi murdered

New Delhi, July 16: The threat of honour killing looms large on girls who chose to marry against family's wishes; a threat is still on Bareliy's Sakshi Mishra and Mumbai's Meenakshi is killed by father as she chose to marry the boy of her choice.

Interestingly the man Meenakshi chose to marry is from her caste only, a Chaurasia. Then what infuriated her father? Actually, her marriage was fixed somewhere else and she did not want to marry there and chose to marry her boyfriend from her village. And this was the crime and she had to pay for this, by losing her life.

A 20-year-old woman died after being attacked with a sharp weapon by an unidentified person in Ghatkopar's Narayan Nagar in Mumbai on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Meenakshi Brijesh Chaurasia. The woman was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

According to the initial probe, the victim was going to meet her relatives when she was attacked by the person. The accused immediately fled the spot after committing the crime.

Police have registered a case against an unidentified person under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the matter and investigation is underway.

The search for the absconding accused has been initiated.

Does this raise some serious questions in society? Can't adults, who are even allowed by the constitution, marry the person of his or her choice. Are relationships so fragile?

Sakshi Mishra's marriage and her video message have gone viral and with this, multiple videos with strong messages to their respective families of daughters who have married the partner of her choice, have gone viral.

While some may be lucky like Sakshi to marry the man of their choice, the unfortunate ones are slain in name of honour killing like Meenakshi Chaurasia.
