Brave Lalremsiami continued playing for the country despite getting news of father's death


\New Delhi, June 26: India's women's hockey striker Lalremsiami has reached her village in Kolasib on Tuesday after she decided to stay on with the team after her father passed away before India's semi-final. The Indian hockey team won the FIH Series Finals in Hiroshima recently.

Lalremsiami lost her father to heart attack on Friday but stayed back to play the semi-final and final. India beat hosts and Asian Games champions Japan 3-1 in the final. Lalremsiami told the teaam's coach, Sjoerd Marijne, that she wants to play and make her father proud.

Kiren Rijiju, India's Sports Minister, praised her effort of continuing to play in the tournament even after losing her father. The minister met the team members after their arrival and congratulated them.

A triumphant Indian team landed in Delhi on Tuesday after returning from Hiroshima.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also lauded the stupendous victory of Indian team. Skipper Rani Rampal was awarded the best player of the tournament.
