Every Indian has found his reflection on the silver screen in flights of fancy and giving a concrete shape to these aspirations and dreams are the characters with whom he empathises. 

As India celebrates its 70 years of Independence, we at News24 bring you the top movies of Bollywood, who over the years have changed the ideology of Indian Cinema-

Mother India (1957)

Highlighting the hardships of womanhood, the first women-centric film was a rare melodrama in the 50s. The movie was the first submission for the  Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1958. This much appreciated movie's profit would estimatedly be Rs 117 crore.

Mughal-e-Azam (1960)

It was a major chaos when the movie was playing at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir. Moreover, the ticket of the movie was the most expensive for that time. Historic movie earned a revenue of Rs 5.5 crore , which in present time would be Rs132.7crore.

Sholay (1975)

The biggest blockbusters of the decade, Sholay has got even more famous with time. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan the earned a still-standing record of 60 golden jubilees.

Hum Aapke Hai Koun..! (1994) 

The first romantic family drama of the 90s broke all records for highest-grossing Bollywood movie by making it first to cross the 100-crore mark. The movie's net gross was Rs 69.7 crores, which in today's date would be equal to Rs 310 crore.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995)

Starring the 'Badshah' and the Queen of Bollywood, this rom-com was one of the major hits. Completing 900 weeks at the Mumbai's Maratha Mandir in 2013, this movie was the second biggest thing after Salman and Madhuri's HAHK! It is the second hindi movie that are included in Steven Jay Schneider's book, '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die','Mother India' being the first one. DDLJ earned net profit of Rs 61 crore.

3 Idiots (2010)

Based on Chetan Bhagat's novel, '3 Idiots' was one the superhits of the recent times. The movies worldwide collections stand at Rs 385 crores.

Dangal (2016)

Highlighting the social issue of a 'girl child', Aaamir Khan's 'Dangal' is based on real-life wrestling champions, Phogat sisters. The movie is the highest-grossing film of India with the worldwide collection of Rs 1979 crore.

Bahubali 2 (2017)

The sequel of 'Bahubali: The Beginning', 'Bahubali 2' broke all records on the box office and is still awaited to release in different parts of the world. This tamil film's current worldwide gross is Rs.1700 crore as it inspires Indian cinema to change the ideology.
