Nagpur: Prison tourism is going to be started for the first time in the country. It is being started by the Maharashtra Government from the historic Yerawada Central Jail in Pune. This time, from Republic Day 2021, ie from January 26, people will be able to visit the Yerwada Jail premises.
The special thing about this prison is that in it Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Veer Savarkar and many well-known personalities of the country have been imprisoned here.
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has also spent a long time in this prison. Those who were locked up during the Emergency in this jail included Tall Bihari Vajpayee, Pramila Dandavate, Balasaheb Deoras, Vasant Nargolkar.
Decision on 150th anniversary
The Maharashtra government is going to start prison tourism from the historic Yerwada Central Jail Pune in the first phase on its 150th anniversary. After this, it will also be started in jails of Nagpur, Nashik, Thane and other districts. For this, a fee of 5 rupees will be given for school students, 10 for college students and 50 rupees for general tourists.

This jail was built in the year 1871. It is spread over 512 acres. It is the largest prison in South Asia. This prison is closely associated with the freedom movements of India. This prison offers a one-year course for prisoners. Under this course, they are given information about Gandhi's thoughts.
