Kolkata: Giving interim relief to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira, the Supreme Court has asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to interrogate both of them for the time being in Kolkata. Both had opposed the ED's call for questioning at its Delhi headquarters.

Along with this, the Supreme Court asked the West Bengal government to cooperate with the ED. Now the next hearing in this matter will be held on July 19.

Banerjee, the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, had sought interrogation not in Delhi but in her home state, where the probe agency is headquartered.

The Supreme Court in its order today asked the Bengal government to cooperate with the central probe agency and provide security to its officers in Bengal.

The Enforcement Directorate has been allowed to approach the Supreme Court if investigators participate in any "obstruction" involving the Bengal government.

The Supreme Court has also stayed a bailable warrant issued by a Delhi court against Banerjee's wife Rujira Banerjee for not responding to summons by the investigating agency. Rujira Banerjee is one of the accused in the money laundering case related to the Bengal coal scam.
