Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to interrogate Rujira Banerjee, wife of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee, in an alleged coal theft case on Tuesday.
On Monday, the CBI questioned Abhishek Banerjee's sister-in-law Menaka Gambhir for three hours in this regard. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
According to the news agency PTI, Rujira wrote to the CBI saying, "However, I am unaware of the reason for inquiry or investigation. You can come to my residence tomorrow between 11 am and 3 am as per your convenience. Request you Is that please inform me your schedule. " Let me tell you that on Sunday, a team of CBI officials went to the MP's residence to summon, but Rujira was not present. He was asked by the agency to join the investigation.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attacked after the CBI on Sunday served a notice to the nephew Abhishek Banerjee's wife for a coal theft case. She said that as long as she is alive, she is not afraid of any kind of threat.
"Do not try to scare us from jail, we have faced guns and we are not afraid of fighting mice," Mamata Banerjee said.
"In the year 2021 there will be only one game and in that match, I will be the goalkeeper and want to see who wins and who loses," the West Bengal Chief Minister added.
After his wife received the CBI notice, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee tweeted, "At 2pm today, the CBI served a notice in the name of my wife. We have full faith in the law of the land. However, if they think they can use these ploys to intimidate us, they are mistaken. We are not the ones who would ever be cowed down.”
Abhishek Banerjee also shared a picture of the CBI notice with his tweet.
The CBI team handed over a notice issued to Abhishek's wife Rujira Banerjee on behalf of the investigating officer, CBI Additional Superintendent of Police Umesh Kumar, in connection with the coal theft case from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), West Bengal.
Anoop Manjhi is said to be the alleged mastermind in this case. In the notice issued on Sunday, Rujira was asked to appear at his address on Harish Mukherjee Road to answer some questions related to the case. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP targeted each other over the CBI's action.
