Sukna (West Bengal): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday inaugurated the Alternate Alignment Gangtok - Nathula Road on Sunday.
The strategically important road has been constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Sikkim.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh presided over the inauguration ceremony via video conferencing from the headquarters of the Indian Army's 33 Corps in Sukna in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal.
Indian Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane was also present on the occasion.
With the inauguration taking place on the auspicious holy day of Dussehra, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also performed the 'Shashtra Puja' ceremony or the Hindu worship of weapons on the occasion.
The inauguration of this strategically crucial road assumes significance in the backdrop of the confrontation between the Indian Army and the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh for the last five months.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted that India will not cede even an inch of land to China and the Indian armed forces are ready to meet the Chinese challenge.
