Regional issues will also come up in the meeting between Jaishankar and Blinken. It was told from both sides that the situation in Afghanistan would be a big issue. Along with this, the issue of military tension between China and India is also likely to arise. The US side is placing more emphasis on defense issues. At 10 o'clock he will meet NSA Ajit Doval, followed by an interaction with the officials and staff of the US Embassy in India at 11:15 am. This will be followed by a joint press conference of External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and Blinken at 2.30 pm and then Blinken will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This meeting to be held today will be very important in many ways. This is Blinken's first visit to India for which he reached New Delhi late on Tuesday evening. With his arrival in India, the US State Department issued a statement on bilateral relations, describing India as a strong strategic partner.
Blinken will deliver US President Joe Biden's message to Prime Minister Modi today. This message will be specifically related to the meeting of the heads of the Quad countries (India, USA, Japan, Australia). Contact between the two countries is going on regarding the meeting between these leaders in September 2021. The issues related to the Quad are also going to be very important in the meeting of the foreign ministers of India and America.
According to sources, now the process of continuous contact between the two countries will continue. General Richard de Klerk, Commander of the US Army's Special Operations Command, is coming to India after Blinken's visit to India.
After this, US Army Chief James McConneville will also visit India in the first week of August. The visits of these three top officials will prepare the ground for the upcoming two plus two (Defence and Foreign Ministers) talks between the two countries.
