Threat of cyclone 'Prevention' persists, Tamil Nadu declares holiday on Wednesday

Chennai: The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has turned into a cyclonic storm.

The Meteorological Department estimates that the storm will cross the Karaikal coasts of Mamallapuram and Puducherry in Tamil Nadu on 25 November. The storm has been named 'Nivaar'. It is believed that the storm may cause heavy havoc in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

 

Chance of heavy rain:

The Director General of the India Meteorological Department said that heavy rains are likely to occur in coastal and northern interior Tamil Nadu districts on 25 November. Districts of northern Tamil Nadu may remain the most affected.

People living in low-lying areas were asked to know in the camp

Disaster Monitoring Officer of Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, said that people living in low-lying areas have been asked to go to the camps set up by the government. At the same time, zonal teams have been deployed in the block and panchayat who will clean the roads and correct the electric poles after the storm.

 

Holiday declared in Tamil Nadu:

The state government has declared a holiday in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday in view of the threat of cyclonic storm prevention. However, there will be no restriction on essential services during this period.

 

Estimated wind speeds from 120 to 145 km / h:

The Meteorological Department has said that during this time the wind speed will be 120-130 km per hour, which can reach 145 km per hour. High alert has been sounded in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in view of the storm. Fishermen have been advised not to go to sea.

 

12 teams of NDRF deployed:

According to a senior NDRF official, 12 teams of NDRF have been deployed. At the same time, 18 other teams have been kept ready for any emergency. He said that these teams would be deployed for relief and rescue operations, including helping to evacuate the local people from the affected areas.

 

Cabinet Secretary gave instructions:

In view of the preventive storm, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba convened a meeting of the National Disaster Management Committee on Monday and took stock of the situation. During this time, he directed not to let anyone's life in the affected areas and restore normalcy soon.

 

Section 144 in Puducherry:

In the wake of the Prevent cyclone, the District Magistrate ordered the imposition of Section 144 from 9 am to 6 am in the entire Puducherry area. All shops and establishments will remain closed. Only milk shops, petrol stations and drug stores will be allowed to operate.
