Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Badal has made serious allegations against the Punjab government regarding coronavirus vaccination.
He said that the Punjab government was playing with the lives of people by creating artificial shortage of Covid-19 vaccines. He also accused Punjab Health Minister Balbir Sidhu of buying coronavirus vaccines at the government rate of Rs 400 and selling them to private hospitals for Rs 1060.
He said that the Health Minister has committed a scam of crores of rupees because private hospitals are giving Covid-19 vaccines at prices ranging from 1500 to 2000 rupees. Sukhbir Badal demanded that legal action should be taken against the Punjab health minister.
Sukhbir said that in Mohali alone, 35,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were sold to private institutions to earn a profit of about Rs 2 crore in a day. He said that after the formation of Akali Dal government in the state, a judicial inquiry would be conducted into the whole matter.
Sukhbir said that Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan is encouraging people to get the vaccine in private hospitals by tweeting. He said that by doing so the government has abdicated its responsibility towards the people by corporatizing coronavirus vaccine distribution.
There is a limit to lying: Sidhu
Punjab Health Minister Balbir Sidhu says that there is a limit to lying.
"Sukhbir Badal is lying outright. There is a shortage of vaccines with the states, it is clear to the world. The Health Department is neither procuring nor distributing the vaccine. Nodal agency has been formed for this. Our job is to vaccinate. Private hospitals are buying and installing the vaccine themselves," he said.
