New Delhi: To mark the 125th birth anniversary of one of the greatest freedom fighters Subhash Chandra Bose, fondly known as Netaji, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed Parakram Diwas celebrations in Kolkata. Paying homage to the freedom fighter, PM Modi said a grateful nation, that India is, will never forget his sacrifice and dedication for its independence. Every year, January 23 is celebrated as Parakram Diwas to commemorate the birth anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose.
"Tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a great freedom fighter and a son of Mother India, on his birth anniversary," The Prime Minister tweeted in Hindi.
"A grateful nation will always remember his sacrifice and dedication for the independence of the country," he added.
PM Modi will be be attending two events, one at the National Library and the other at Victoria Memorial Hall, during his two day-long visit to Kolkata.
Meanwhile, on Subhas Chandra Bose anniversary's eve, Prime Minister Modi ha shared a series of tweets while remembering his legacy.
"The Prime Minister "May the thoughts and ideals of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose keep inspiring us to work towards building an India that he would be proud of…a strong, confident and self-reliant India, whose human-centric approach contributes to a better planet in the years to come,” he had tweeted.
"Dear sisters and brothers of West Bengal, I am honoured to be in your midst, that too on the auspicious day of #ParakramDivas.
During the programmes in Kolkata, we will pay tributes to the brave Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, " he said in another tweet.
He also recalled the special programme that is held at Haripura in his home state of Guajarat. "Haripura has a special relation with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. It was at the historic Haripura Session of 1938 that Netaji Bose took up the Presidentship of the Congress Party. Tomorrow’s programme at Haripura will be a tribute to Netaji Bose’s contribution to our nation," he said.
