New Delhi, Feb 22: US President Donald Trump’s official visit has already sparked off a bit of a domestic political controversy in India even before its start.


Melania Trump, the wife of US President Donald Trump, is scheduled to visit a school run by the Delhi government the couple's two-day visit to India.


The First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS)  is scheduled to attend a “happiness class", whcih was introduced by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in schools run by the Delhi government in 2018.


These classes are for students till Class VIII. In these classes, the students are taught various activities which include meditation, street plays and basic obedience, part from other extra-curricular activities. 


This course does not feature any written examination and is intended to reduce stress among students.


Initially, it was reported that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia will accompany Melania Trump during her visit to the government school.

However, on Saturday media reports quoted sources in the Aam Aadmi Party as saying that the duo will not be present during Melania Trump's visit.


Although no official statement has been issued on the reasons behind the ommission of Kejriwal and Sisodia, the Bhafratiya Janata Party (BJP) has asserted that the issue should not be given a political colour.


“We just want to say that we should not do petty politics on this… We don’t influence the US on who to invite or not,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra was quoted as saying by News18.


Melania Trump is scheduled to visit the government school on February 25, the second day of the Trumps' tour of India.


The official start for Trump's visit to the country is scheduled at around noon on February 24 in Ahmedabad. He is then due to inaugurate the largest cricket stadium in the world at Motera where he will be accompanied by Modi.


The two of them will address an  audience which is estimated to be more than 1,00,000 people at the 'Namaste Trump' event.


Trump will leave for Agra along with his wife Melania later on the same day.


On February 25, Trump and Melania will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi. 


They will then visit the 'samadhi' of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. 


Later Trump and Modi are scheduled to conduct delegation-level talks at the Hyderabad House.
