New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact virtually with the chief ministers of eight northeastern states today at 11 am. The meeting comes in the backdrop of increasing positivity rate in the northeast even as country's overall positivity rate continue to witness a constant decline.  


More than three out of every five districts that reported positivity rate above 10 per cent are from Northeast. Of 58 districts that reported a positivity rate higher than 10 per cent, according to the data provided by the Union Health Ministry.  Around 80% of the Covid-19 cases in India at the moment are being witnessed from 90 districts. As many as 14 of them are from the northeast, it added.


Earlier on July 6, the Health Ministry had sent individual letters to the northeastern states over the increasing positivity rate, flagging alert.  Additionally, offices including Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and Union Home Secretary A K Bhalla asked the states to ramp up testing with a high proportion of RT-PCR tests and plan other precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, India reported 37,154 new cases in the last 24-hour, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Country's active caseload currently stands at 4,50,899. The active cases constitute 1.46% of the total cases.


Sharma made his ODI debut earlier in 1978 against Pakistan while amassing 883 runs at an average of 28.48. He played 160 matches while scoring 8, 933 runs that included 21 centuries with a highest score 201* at Ranaji where he represented three teams including Haryana and Railways.
