New Delhi, August 4, News24 Bureau: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reviewed the progress of preparations towards the launch of Health Assurance programme under Ayushman Bharat. Senior officials of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, NITI Aayog and PMO briefed PM on various aspects including preparations in states.

Earlier The National Health Agency (NHA) under the Health Ministry, which is the apex body for the implementation of Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission, inked an MoU with the Electronics and IT Ministry to provide information and eligibility validation services to the beneficiaries, especially in remote areas.

This is an ambitious project of the government and is eagerly awaited.

The scheme will provide health assurance cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per family. It will cover over 10 crore poor and vulnerable families in the country.


Top officials of the ministry of health and family welfare, NITI Aayog and the Prime Minister's Office briefed the PM on various aspects, including the preparations in states and development of the technological infrastructure associated with the scheme, a PMO release said.


In April, on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, the Prime Minister had inaugurated the first 'health and wellness centre' under Ayushman Bharat in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.
