Manish Kumar, New Delhi: Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that it is a misnomer to say that that petroleum prices have reached an all-time high today.

During Question Hour, Congress leader KC Venugopal had asked the Petroleum Minister the following question: "The Prices of Petrol-Diesel are at an all-time high, but the price of Crude Oil is not at an all-time high. Now the petrol price in my village is around 100 rupees? By how many times has the excise duty been hiked?"

Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan replied that the tax issue has to be tackled carefully while asserting that petroleum prices have not increased as much as is being claimed.

"Today, the international crude oil price is 61 dollars. Today we have to tackle the tax issue carefully," he said.

"In the last 300 days, there are around 60 days when the prices (of Petrol-Diesel) have been increased around 60 times. Petrol prices have declined on 7 days while Diesel prices have declined on 21 days. Almost 250 days there has been neither an increase or any decrease," he added.
