Parrikar orders CBI inquiry against top Army officers in disproportionate assets case
New Delhi: In first of such incident, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday ordered a CBI inquiry against two serving Major Generals in a disproportionate assets case, reports said.
Major General Ashok Kumar of Army Service Core and Major General SS Lamba of Army Ordinance Core are accused of paying bribe for securing their promotions to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Top ministry officers said that "their promotions were approved during the tenure of former Military Secretary Lt. General R. Bhalla (now retired). If required, Bhalla will also be examined by the CBI."
While in pursuance of zero tolerance against corruption, Parrikar asked the CBI to investigate all movable and immovable assets earned by these officers, and submit the report by earliest.
