New Delhi: India has reported a slight dip in daily cases with 3,57,229 fresh cases in last 24-hour, taking the overall caseload to 2,02,82,833, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday. In the same time, 3,449 more people succumbed due to the deadly virus, taking the total fatality toll to 2,22,408, the Ministry added.
It is the 13th straight day when India recorded more than three lakh cases while over 3,000 casualties have been reported for the past seven days. The country currently had 4,47,133 active cases. According to MoHFW, a total of 3,20,289 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours after getting cured.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 29,33,10,779 samples have been tested up to Monday (May 3) for Covid-19, of these 16,63,742 samples were tested on Monday.
Maharashtra, which had been reporting over 60,000 coronavirus cases in a day last month, on Monday logged 48,621 new cases. In its lowest daily in five weeks, Mumbai on Monday logged 2,624 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours.
Karnataka has emerged as the new epicenter of covid-19 as a whopping 44,438 new Covid cases were registered in Karnataka in a day, with 239 people succumbing due to the virus in the same duration, said the health bulletin on Monday.
Delhi on Monday reported as many as 18,043 new coronavirus cases and 448 deaths, the highest daily death count so far. The fresh cases have been the lowest in the capital since April 15.
17.08 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the country in the last 24 hours. Over 15.89 crore shots have been administered since the inoculation drive began on January 16. The country has now opened vaccination for all adult but most of the states do not have slots available for people between 18 to 44.
