Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath made a strong pitch for the support of farmers in the upcoming assembly elections next year at News24 Conclave—‘Manthan’.
Speaking at the conclave, the chief minister said farmers are the backbone of society. “Farmers are our Annadata. Farmers got respect only since 2014,” CM Adityanath said.
He added that during the tenure of earlier governments, announcements were just that, with no content. He said earlier announcements were just in the air.
Drawing a contrast with earlier governments, CM Adityanath cited the high number of farmer suicides in the past. “Many farmers committed suicide between 2004 and 2014, but they are happy since 2014,” he said.
“We waived the loan of 36 thousand crores. After 2017 we made record purchases from farmers,” the UP chief minister added.
