Kolkata: There has been renewed speculation about the political ambitions of Sourav Ganguly just ahead of the third phase of the West Bengal Election 2021.
The new round of speculation was triggered after Sourav Ganguly met BJP candidate Ashoke Dinda. Former cricketer and BJP candidate Ashoke Dinda tweeted a picture with Sourav Ganguly with the caption, "Met Dada after a long time". BJP MP Soumitra Khan has liked this tweet.
Incidentally, there has been speculation over the past few months that Sourav Ganguly may join the BJP. Speculations over Sourav Ganguly's involvement in politics began shortly after he became BCCI president.
In West Bengal, the former Indian cricket team captain may become the face of the BJP. Recently, there has been speculation that the BCCI president may be seen on the stage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's brigade rally. However, in the end, Sourav Ganguly did not join PM Modi's brigade rally.
Regarding Sourav Ganguly's political future, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said, "I have no idea. Sourav Ganguly suddenly fell ill. At that time he was sought after by Amit Shah and other front-line leaders of the BJP. Then this why speculation becomes more intense."
Sourav Ganguly himself has never commented directly about joining politics.
Speaking on his future plans, the BCCI president told the media, "Let's see where life goes. Let's see what happens."
Regarding his immense popularity across the country, Sourav Ganguly said, "I am blessed to have this love. I just do my job. I live a normal life. Meet people, talk. That is my nature."
