New Delhi: Ramprasad Bismil, the great revolutionary who gave the erstwhile British rulers of India sleepless nights with his bravery and mass appeal, was born on this day in the year 1897 in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
He was also a poet, poet, translator, and litterateur of a high order. Singing his famous composition 'Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna', many revolutionaries marched to the gallows with their heads held high and sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country with a smile on their faces.
He was hanged in Gorakhpur jail on December 19, 1927, by the British government after a dramatic trial in the historic Kakori case.

The whole nation is paying tribute to Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil on his 124th birth anniversary. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other leaders paid tribute to him on the occasion.
"Many tributes to the immortal son of Mother India, the leader of the revolutionary stream of the Indian freedom struggle, Amar Shaheed Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil ji, on his birth anniversary. Your life and your sacrifices will continue to inspire us for the service of the nation for ages," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted.
BJP leader Ravi Kishan tweeted, "Jai Hind..! Tributes to the great hero of the Kakori incident, the great revolutionary, who gave a new direction to the freedom movement, on the birth anniversary of Amar Shaheed Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil ji..! Jai Hind.....Vande Mataram...!"
